The Foolish Apprenticeship Program

Stealing From TropicalMBA

I know Dan Andrews from the TropicalMBA & LifestyleBusinessPodcast.com won’t mind if I knock-off his very brilliant idea.  Dan created an internship program where people can earn while they learn and…

Have a great adventure by living in South East Asia — specifically Bali & the Philippines.

The Foolish Apprenticeship Program

What I want to do is create an apprenticeship program where you can learn what I do so that you can go off and build your own successful online business.

MEN WANTED FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY. LOW WAGES, BITTER COLD, LONG HOURS
OF COMPLETE DARKNESS. SAFE RETURN DOUBTFUL. HONOUR AND RECOGNITION IN
EVENT OF SUCCESS. ~ Ernest Shackleton

Here’s the details:

This is a three month apprenticeship for the right woman or man.  You will work with me virtually on Foolish projects — specifically Foolish Adventure, the University & Foolish Guides.  We may also work on a niche site together to give you a broader experience.

You’ll learn how to do:

  • SEO
  • podcasting
  • blogging
  • product launches
  • create info-products
  • and all other aspects needed to grow an internet business.

The pay is low just like in an internship or apprenticeship.

Glory?  Probably not, but definitely Honour & Recognition as Shackleton said.

Knowledge to build your own successful business?  Most definitely.

What you need to bring to the table:

  • A willingness to learn and work.
  • The ability to put in 4 to 6 hours per day five days per week.
  • You must be a cool person who takes ownership of everything you do.
  • You don’t get offended from the occasional use of profanity.
  • You enjoy life and the people around you.
  • You are open to new ideas, but have the logic skills needed to critique and/or implement them.
  • You must have access to high-speed Internet — I don’t care if you’re in Asia, Africa, Europe or the Americas just as long as you can get online.
  • Fluent in English — verbal and written.  Being a better communicator than me is very helpful.
  • You know the basics of WordPress already.
  • Web design skills a HUGE plus.

How to apply:

  • Apply via email, Tim at tim411 dot com. Don’t send attachments. Link out to extra resources.
  • Write a 200-500 word blog post ON YOUR BLOG entitled “Why the Foolish Apprenticeship is a good fit for me.” Link to FoolishAdventure.com in your post.
  • Describe in 200-500 words your current or recent web projects. Emphasize the results you created  if possible.
  • Answer: what are your top 3 favorite blogs/podcasts and why — not including Foolish Adventure. Tell me why your top choice is excellent.
  • Include a (link to third party site okay here) VIDEO or AUDIO message to me, at least 30 seconds. Just tell me who you are and what’s going on.
  • I will confirm receipt by the deadline of the contest. If I do not, please double check with me.
  • DEADLINE: Thursday, September 15th, 2011 10:00PM EST.

Thanks for your time and applications. I read and review every single one personally.

Here’s to a great Foolish Apprenticeship,

Tim

PS. Ask questions in the comments section.

Does the daily time commitment require a single uninterrupted block of time or can it be broken up into say two segments during the day?

  • Darcy

Is there a duration for the apprenticeship?  Or will you keep your apprentice as long as needed?

  • http://www.filmmakingnaturally.com Kevin J Railsback

It’s a three month apprenticeship according to the post.

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

Just 4 hours or so of productive time.  The beauty of virtual extends beyond just space, but includes time.

Very interesting. I look forward to seeing how many applications you get!

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

Same here.  If this goes well, then I intend to expand the program.

  • http://www.therawtarian.com Laura-Jane the Rawtarian

Tempting, very tempting. Does your apprentice get to be your FA podcast co-host? ;)

  • http://damianthompson.com Damian Thompson

    Good luck Tim!

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

Possibly. Though I think I’m going to do a search for a new cohost after finding an apprentice.

    Thanks, D.

And Izzy gets replaced by an intern. :D

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

Anyone I have on the show is going to be sharp. Though I do think it would be fun to have an apprentice come on the show periodically to share what she or he has learned.

You know I’m just being snarky, Tim. Seriously, best of luck finding your ideal person. I look forward to watching it unfold.

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

No worries. I thought it was funny, but figured I should have a more measured response in case someone reads it and not get it. I feel all corporate-y just typing that. Ick.

  • Alex

    Hey Tim,

I have to ask, how much does it pay? While the internship is valuable in and of it self I need money to pay a few bills. Looking forward to hearing back from you,
    -Alex

As I said in the post, the pay is low — up to $1000 per month with the potential for bonuses for helping achieve certain Foolish goals.

Should I re-submit my application? I never got a confirmation of receipt.

Got your application. Was swamped by last minute submissions.  Most waited till today to apply.
