FA007 – Even More Awesome Audience-Building Traffic Sources

Welcome to the Bond episode, FA007, licensed to grow your business. Okay, that’s pretty lame even for me.

In today’s show we continue our discussion from Monday on Unpaid Traffic tactics. Unpaid meaning takes time, but not money.

In a future episode we’ll cover ways for you to spend yo’ money to get targeted traffic to make mo’ money.

Enough lameness from me…

Enjoy the show and as always leave us comments & questions,

Just listened to this show again and remembered something I forgot to share about content partners. I learned this technique from John Reese, a famous Internet marketer. If you create some free super-cool content that’s worth charging for (Izzy’s 3 Product Approach tm, copyright, etc) work with your content partners to do a coordinated launch.

John Reese calls this a Content Launch and it is really powerful because your content can spread rapidly with the help of your partners and then buzz is generated around that content. Your content partners will want to do this because when they want to do the same thing, you’ll be there for them.

Izzy and Tim …perhaps this is the best show…I wanted share an idea. In my new blog Today In Tango, I have attached related video to the post. I have gone to the video authors channel and left a comment saying that I have used their video on my post….Thanks again; still waiting for you in Rome. http://todayintango.wordpress.com/

The secret is to understand the customer’s motivation and to deliver the right message in a precise, powerful way is sometimes hard to do on a website, especially when you’re just getting started. You don’t even know if your product is of value to the end user – commuication is needed.
So here’s my first go at it.

By placing a streaming video of a moving, talking person anywhere on your website, visitors are quickly engaged and your key message is delivered immediately and in person. I was told this once while taking a class. What is needed to make a quality introduction.

With online attention spans being notoriously short, the first few seconds of a visitor’s experience of your website are vital and I’m hoping you can help keep me at least one step ahead of the competition. As well as greeting visitors and delivering sales messages, could you also point out buttons or features of site’s navigation, encouraging visitors to click through to relevant pages.

I have enjoyed all seven installments of Foolish Adventure, you’re starting to blend better and the production is becoming more comfotable (I hope that makes sence). I have not started my website yet but every show gives me more insight.

    Izzy and Tim,
The timing of Foolish Adventure completely coincides with my beginning my own foolish adventure. I am just a homemaker who’s trying her hand at a dream that’s always been out there. Listening to your podcast is so helpful. It gives me confidence as much as it provides really useful information. I eagerly look forward to each new episode. Thanks!

    Fun show you two!

I was so happy yo hear you end with the comments on great content. There is so much hype around social marketing and SEO, but it all really boils down to providing something of value that people not only want, but need. It is what they NEED that can lead to revenue.

As a fan of the bootstrapping model of entrepeneurship, I love that you are educating new business owners on the best “free” ways to generate traffic. Along that line of though, the prospect of writing or creating videos or audio presentations is, however, likely to stop many dead in their tracks. Perhaps you could share some tips with your audience on this subject? While I can easily write content, I have no experience in creating podcasts, audio files or videos (although I am trying to leanr to shoot video through IzzyVideo’s member tutorials – thanks Izzy!). So, even those of us who are more experienced have something to learn here. For me, that is a life goal – always learning!

    Till next time…

    Overheard on twitter:

How many SEO copywriters does it take to change a lightbulb, light bulb, bulb, lamp, light, eco-bulb, bulbs, fluorescent tubes?

    That’s hilarious! LOL!

  • Michael

What exactly do you mean by coordinated launch? Would you ask your partner to blog about your product for example?

  • http://FoolishAdventure.com Tim Conley

Before I cover how a content launch works, I want to clarify that it is for free and super-awesome content and not a product that is for sale. A content launch functions like a product launch so I want to make sure there isn’t any confusion between the two.

A content launch tends to require others who believe in your work enough to share it with their audience without needing financial compensation to do so. However, it usually is a quid pro quo situation where you’ll return the favor when they have something awesome to share.

So what constitutes super-cool content? Typically not a blog post. Definitely not disguised or blatant sales pitches. It can take the shape of any media format–ebook, video, audio, software, etc. The key to this being successful is that people would be more than willing to pay money for it. Not like, “I’d give a buck for it.” It should be something that people would be glad to pay $20 or more for–similar to buying a book at a bookstore.

With all that said, a coordinated launch of your content should have multiple partners sending out emails, doing blog posts, tweeting, facebooking and more to convince as many people as possible to get your content on a specific day.

Even though the content will always be available for free, your goal is to generate as much buzz around this single day as possible. People who are excited are more likely to share it with others. You have a high likelihood of people you don’t know retweeting, blogging and more about how awesome your free thing is.

This will generate tons of links back to your site, which helps you rank higher in the search engines and in turn getting more visitors to your site. A well executed content launch can create an ever-growing spiral of people sharing your content and talking about your content.

This can rocket your small audience into a huge audience. At the very least, you should double your monthly visits, but hopefully you get 500%+ growth out of it. You’ll notice a spike in your unique visits in the beginning, but you should see strong growth over the next couple of months if your content resonates with people.

So I got the first email about this when you sent it out and I signed up for the email but I was just leaving on a two week trip and then I got back and had back to school to get ready for. I finally got to listening to your podcasts this weekend. I have listened to them all in the last 2 days and can I say my head is full of ideas and information. In my ‘job’ I’m working on a project to launch a new site and so this information has been wonderful but I really want to do something on my own and you have my head spinning with ideas. One area I would like to see you address is website design and how to go about getting this done. Can you recommend sites for website design? We’ve been using a website design house for the ‘job’ but this is way too expensive and they nickle and dime you. I used to program computers pre-kids so I’m not scared of technology but just haven’t tried my hands at website design. Need to know where to start and how best to do this. I have a blog but how do I add ecommerce to a blog. Thank you Thank you for starting this and be willing to share.

Hi, I just listened to this episode for the 3rd time. Commenting on blogs is helpful, and also using your blogroll to other people get more audience members. Hopefully, some of them would return the favor for you someday. I always look at my favorite bloggers’ rolls to see who else they are reading and if I like it, I’ll add it to my roll, so I am assuming other people do similar things.

Just wanted to say thanks for offering these podcasts and you guys are hilarious! It’s nice to learn something new, but enjoy the process at the same time…entertainment!

Another great show guys. I think it is great you are covering so many tactics because just like with investing you want a balanced portfolio. Too much reliance on Twitter can be bad especially when we see the rise and fall of social platforms daily. 30% traffic from Twitter is awesome and that wave should be ridden as long as you can. What happens if Twitter still can’t figure out how to monetize their stuff in a year? Then what do you hang your traffic generation on? Hopefully you have 3 or 4 other tactics in your strategy (that’s for you Izzy) that will pick up the slack.

Would it be interesting to share the links to the sites, people, … you are mentioning in your episodes ?

  • http://www.izzyvideo.com IzzyVideo

That would definitely be interesting and useful. The problem is that neither
of us have the time to add all that extra information… Maybe in the future
    – after we’re making money with this and can hire someone to do that kind
    of stuff. :-)

    All the best,

    Izzy
