How To Acquire The Right Clients: Make $5000 to $10,000 A Month Part 2 – FA097

Johan Woods, Internet Marketing Consultant

Back By Popular Demand…

Johan Woods has returned to the Foolish Adventure Show to ask, “How in hell do I get more clients for my marketing consulting business?”

In this episode, Johan dives right for the core of building a business — any business. If a business doesn’t get customers it isn’t a business. For Johan, it’s a matter of paying the bills. Rent has to get paid. Food has to end up in the fridge.

Johan and I dive deep into the topic of getting clients especially positioning yourself before you even set out to get your first client. We go into the psychology of small business owners, targeting specific businesses, how to sift, sort and screen businesses to get the right clients and much more.

I know that marketing consulting isn’t the main focus of the Foolish Adventure Show, but the first episode that Johan and I did together got a lot of people to email us asking a ton more questions.

There’s just no way we could cover all that needs to be covered and I know a lot of listeners won’t be interested in learning how to do what I do for a living. So, Johan and I are starting a new site that covers how to be a marketing consultant over at MarketingConsultantBlueprint.com. There’s only an opt-in there for anyone who wants to learn more.

Interesting podcast. I tried my hand at website development for small businesses and developing info products for others for awhile… The 2 biggest problems were getting clients and getting them to pull the trigger on the contract (read: pay me).

On a slightly meta discussion, maybe there would be a market for a pack of sign up / opt in buttons for the squeezepages…. If I see another yellow button with a blue circle I might cry ;)

Those are two of the top 3 problems as a consultant: 1. Getting Clients, 2. Fulfillment and 3. Getting Paid.  I’ve been working with Johan and have literally shared my knowledge with him over at least 10 hours of conversation and we have barely scratched the surface on all there is to know.

That’s why we’re starting MarketingConsultantBlueprint.com since Foolish Adventure isn’t really meant for this kind of business.

As for meta, yeah, the choice of premade buttons in Optimize Press are limited, but we wanted to get this up fast.  We came up with the idea and 1 day later had the opt-in page done.

Tim – I’d love to see some case studies of the work that you’ve done as part of the blue print.

Definitely. Some of my more interesting clients have a confidentiality agreement with me so I’ll have to change enough details about them so as not to be identifiable, but still give an accurate case study.

The second part of the podcast is again full of rock solid advice to take home and test. I had forgotten (I thought) the first part, but now that I heard this one, it came to mind, and I noticed I have actually subconsciously been using some of the advice from the first one. Some things just stick in your head and direct your action. Thanks guys!

Sometimes smart stuff comes out of my mouth.  I must be channeling the late, great Ogilvy.

Your welcome, Henrik.  I’m glad you’re out there taking action.

Hey guys thanks for this show, very timely for me particularly in relation to the SEO services. I’m finding my ‘packages’ aren’t as relevant anymore with the recent Google changes and I’m trying to work out whether I take a more hands on custom approach with each client where we work out what they will do and what we will do and then design a custom monthly package (where we perhaps get more hands on, writing them blog articles, doing their social media etc) or whether I just ditch it and focus on other parts of the business.

I’m not sure I know the answer but it was good to hear you guys talking about it!

I think the content for successful SEO should be a part of the package.  The package should still be standardized including who does the writing and distributing of articles and who does the social media and HOW each are done though the content inside each is different.  As long as you don’t customize the system and package for each client because then it becomes more difficult for your staff to fulfill the varied requirements.

I would absolutely 100% purchase the marketing consultant blueprint product. That is all =D
