How To Use Social Proof In Your Internet Business – FA029

Where’s Your Proof?

One of the most powerful tools of marketing is social proof.  It can also be misused–so be cool with it.

In this episode, we talk about what social proof is, how to get it and what to do with it.  We cover customer testimonials, of course, but also go into a few forms of social proof you may not have thought to use.

Below is the video we discuss in the show.  You can watch it before or after listening to the show.

Enjoy your Foolish Adventure!

I enjoyed listening to your thoughts on social proof. I think this concept can be extended to almost anything you would do not only from a career standpoint but also in other aspects of life. I know in the corporate world folks have always told me “you need to speak up more often in order to promote yourself” but I’ve always taken the notion of being a better listener and speaking when there is something important to say or at a time when the customer is ready. This is when other folks notice and pretty soon you develop a reputation that when you do actually say something others will listen. They will tell others and when this gets back to someone that matters (your boss, customer, spouse, etc) it makes a much larger impact than tooting your own horn. Good common sense is never outdated either in social media or just plain life. Preach often and if necessary use words.

The shakiness of the video hurt my eyes and irritated me but glad I stuck it out. The message was great!

Has the PC been uploaded to iTunes yet? When I checked earlier (five hours ago) it wasn’t there. Is there a lag time between when you add to iTunes and when it comes up for users such as myself?

Loved the idea of using this video in a metaphoric sense. I watched it just before listening to the show, which made things open up so much easier,…
…., sort of like watching Revenge of the Sith first, before Empire Strikes Back.

It would be great to see more real examples first, and then discussed in the show.

Thanks so much guys…. for all your work.

Two words for this episode: Awesome Sauce.

Whether you guys are talking about driving traffic to your site, establishing authority in your niche, or gaining social proof, it always comes back to interaction. If you are not interacting with your community, you can bet it will be a lot more difficult to get people coming to your site to find out what you are about. A few podcasts back the light bulb finally went on in my head and I began joining a few forums, commenting on other websites related to my own content, and interacting on twitter. The feedback since has been unbelievable.

If you are a Foolish follower and waiting for your website to be perfect, or waiting to get enough content on your site, STOP! Search out others and begin interacting with them. You’ll be amazed at what will come from it.
