Knowing What Levers to Pull – FA050

I’m not embarrassed by what I’m about to tell you. It happens to everyone at some point…

My numbers went down in April.

In particular, I’m talking about two important statistics for one of my websites.
“New Visitors” decreased, and “New Email Subscribers” decreased.

When I first got started in online business, this kind of thing worried me. I would start to panic thinking that things were going to trend downwards, and my business would eventually fail.

But not anymore. These days I know exactly what to do. That’s what we’re talking about on this week’s show…

Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been running a business online for years, I think you’ll find this episode helpful.

Gentlemen – Another great epsiode. I’ve been working on improving my subscription rate for a daily newsletter that I have on one of my websites. I’m ramping up toward a paid/premium version of it and am hoping to have a big list to market it to when it launches. I was hoping to get in on the Product Launch Formula, but apparently it’s not available right now (how lame is that?). Anyway, if you have any alternative resources that might be helpful in launching an information product/service, I’d love to know about them.

On an unrelated note, there was a great article about simplifying sign-up processes I read this morning. I’m sure alot of this applies to email newsletters and membership sites. -http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/05/05/innovative-techniques-to-simplify-signups-and-logins/

Thanks for the link. It’s a really good article. As for product launch stuff, Izzy and I recorded a session for our Foolish members and we are planning on doing another webinar on launches soon.

    “Foolish Members”? do explain!

I started listening to FA about a month ago and started listening to the back catalog (I’m on EP 35). I’ve also listened to ~45-50. After doing some googling, I found your membership site, but only listening to the most recent episodes, it seems that new listeners would have no way of knowing about the membership program without going back and reading the blog posts specifically related to them.

Is there a reason why the membership program isn’t really linked to/promoted on from the main FA website?

I had a very good strategic reason for not having it anywhere on our site — I forgot to ever link it up! We are making big changes at FA and will be opening up membership, hopefully, June 1.

    Now that sounds strategic!

Interesting thought on placing an ad at the end of the video, however some video sites let you view the number of people who watch the entire video and at least for me, it’s pretty small.

Another good point on getting affiliates to link to free content – seems obvious after the fact.

Using wordpress SEO by yoast for seo at the moment and I always try to remember to work backwards from the SEO keyword, even if I named my video something else – “GarageBand Project: Songwriter” becomes “Recording a Song in GarageBand”. Here’s to hoping today’s ditch is tomorrow’s canal.

Doing a few minutes research on the video ads – if you’re hosting your own video – which I believe Izzy iz, players are available which tap into text ads and video ads, at a price. I have the option of using this player, but am using Vimeo at the moment to serve free content with a pro account restricted to my domain.

I liked Izzy’s analogy in this one about the airplane dashboard. I am a little behind on the episodes and just listened to this one. I have started my dashboard, and what did I learn . . . I am not doing as good as I thought I was. It has provided me some new motivation to get off my asset.

On a side note, I started my online business adventure last fall (about the time you guys and Pat Flynn started your podcasts). I like both podcasts, but the regular episodes for FA have been a plus. Between the three of you, I have learned a ton. Thank you!
