P30 – Day 14: Trusting the Ease
If things don’t come easy, there is no premium on effort. There should be joy in the chase, zest in the pursuit. ~ Branch Rickey
Yesterday, we were all eaten by imaginary bears…
Or not.
Either way, if you did yesterday’s Action Task, take a minute to stop right here and pat yourself on the back. Doing the thing that scares you the most is exhilarating and paralysis-inducing all wrapped up into one.
Since you did such an amazing job yesterday, and you’re edging closer and closer to being done with the creation phase of your progress, today, we’re going to talk about (and do) something easy.
There seems to be a kind of general self-distrust when something comes really, really easy to you. Amazing singers brush off their own voices. Business geniuses will often tell you they’re just lucky. Writers drink. (And discount their own work.)
Wrapped in this middle of this pseudo-humility is a very big lesson: Just because something is easy for you most certainly does not mean it’s easy for someone else. And it definitely doesn’t mean that your own particular Big Easy Thing should be discounted or brushed aside.
When something comes easily and naturally to you, and gets you completely excited, run with that, people. There are literally billions of people on this planet that don’t have the same talents, knowledge, and skills that you do.
Easy just means that you’re doing what you were meant to do, and if you can turn that into a product to help other people learn to make it easy, too…well, you’re on a divine mission.
ACTION TASK:
Today, we’re going to do a sprint.
What part of your topic is the absolute easiest for you to write about? What part of the creation process gets your blood going and comes completely naturally? The writing? The headlines? The worksheets or interactive bits? The videos or audio?
Pick a thing that comes completely easy to you and a form that you’re completely comfortable with, and sprint your way through the easiest night of this month. Tick a million items off your outline, or just one great big awesome thing that puts you much closer to the end of the process. Do that thing with ease and passion.
Watch your momentum build.
TOMORROW:
After two days of pushing, we’re going to take the first part of tomorrow to do a little bit of evaluation now that we’re in the home stretch.
